Have an absolutely beautiful rest of your life.
This is a very special edition of From The Basement dedicated to the memory of Kimberly Kenney. Episode #59 (Joe’s Garage Act XXI) is comprised of music that Kimberly loved and was assembled with the help of members from The Loft Facebook groups Loft Refugees and Lofty Pursuits. With all the horrible things social media and the internet in general have been responsible for, the fact remains that without either this group of people would have never come together, forged bonds that will last a lifetime and shared their passion for art, culture and especially music. Kimberly was the best of us and she made a mark that will last forever. I hope you enjoy this episode and I’m holding back the playlist for a while as I do not want any looking ahead! Love you all. (UPDATE: Playlist is now posted below)
There are fabulous new releases from The National, Buddy & Julie Miller, Johnathan Rice, Mac Demarco, Son Volt, Bear’s Den, The Get Up Kids, A.A. Bondy, The Dream Syndicate and Filthy Friends at the heart of Episode #58 (Joe’s Garage Act XX). They get mixed and matched with everything from Moby and War to Modest Mouse and Patti Smith, with Humble Pie, Adam Schmitt, The Shazam, Big Star, Be Bop Deluxe, Argent, Chicano Batman and even Robert Mitchum finding a place in the flow. Dean and The Weenies make their feelings about Alabama known, as does Neil Young. My unpacking has also uncovered a lost gem from our pal Jimmer Podrasky in the form of the unreleased album from The Lovin’ Miserys. Anastasia returns with another edition of Dispatch From Colorado. Once again you people have shown amazing support with your generous donations, making this old man tear up in gratitude. Thanks for everything. https://paypal.me/pools/c/8beKwFWlHR
As our descent into full-blown Bizarro World continues, Episode 57 of From The Basement will try to serve as a musical distraction to the destruction of our democracy. With a brilliant new EP from Matthew Ryan, Filthy Friends’ second full long player, Joel Ross (a wonderful new Vibraphonist on the Jazz scene) and the mysterious Waylon Jennings meets Morrissey hybrid that answers to the name Orville Peck we hope to plant your ears on solid ground. Dispatch From Colorado marks the first anniversary of the tragic passing of Scott Hutchison, and we roam through the stacks for contributions from Los Lobos, David Lindley, Richard Thompson, Frank Zappa, 10cc, Garland Jeffreys, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Low, Robert Plant, The Clash, The Incredible Casuals, Robyn Hitchcock and a whole bunch more. Please keep up your fantastic donations and as always thanks for listening. https://paypal.me/pools/c/8beKwFWlHR
The latest instalment of From The Basement takes place on a lazy Saturday afternoon in beautiful New Jersey digging into new arrivals from the reborn and revitalized Dream Syndicate, Neil Young with The Stray Gators, Kevin Morby, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Rhiannon Giddens and on Dispatch From Colorado... Radical Face, Foxygen, Sad Planets and more from Craig Finn. We pay tribute to unsung musical hero Paul Raymond, get some funk going with Bloodstone and Tower Of Power and touch upon sounds ranging from Gil Scott-Heron, Jimi and T.Rex to The Beatles, Chuck Berry and 801, naming a scant few. Your donations have been our lifeblood and please accept an enormous virtual hug and kiss for your generosity. https://paypal.me/pools/c/8beKwFWlHR
