Have an absolutely beautiful rest of your life.
17 is a magic number this week as we explore different sounds with the same number as the latest episode. We'll also unearth a long lost and never released John Coltrane Quartet recording, as well as previously unreleased live material from Derek & The Dominoes and Traffic. The new bin is overflowing with Death Cab For Cutie, Fantastic Negrito, Low, Peter Buck and Joseph Arthur, Spiritualized and M. Ward to name a few... and new stuff from living legends Buddy Guy (with Mick, Keith and Jeff Beck), John Fogerty and new single from Nick Lowe. Plus a whole bunch more. Thanks to all for the wonderful get well wishes. I most definitely feel the love and thank you with all my heart.
New music including Fantastic Negrito, Neko Case, Ry Cooder, Marcus Miller with Trombone Shorty, Wussy, Matthew Sweet, Amos Lee, Leeds, Ryley Walker, Kamasi Washington, Ray Lamontagne and fab new duo Peter Buck and Joseph Arthur can be found at the center of this episode. Even adding in the return of Parlament, Weezer paying tribute to Toto, the Springsteen archive release I've been hoping for, a musical dissertation on "Groovin'" and alternate takes from The Clash and Morphine still only cover about half the nuggets lovingly hand mixed just for you this time around.
The start of 2016 has delivered a blistering level of heartbreak and loss to the world of music. My ears have been filled with tributes and specials trying to bring some sort of closure, not to mention a flurry of special programming that needed curating. A few weeks ago I received the news that my Mother's time on the planet is rapidly approaching the end. Hopefully that explains the silence lately on this blog, although perhaps I saved you from weeks of "sad-bastard" music posts by keeping my keyboard quiet. Here are some new sounds I'm enjoying at the moment.
Sorry I've been silent on this blog for a few weeks. I'll try to make up for my sloth with a massive post of new tunes that are making my world a better place lately. We'll start with a pair that belong at the top of the list.
Many have asked how to keep the From The Basement programs afloat, especially now that I am unemployed. Please donate via PayPal below whatever you feel you can afford to help cover my costs. Thank you.
