From The Desk of Art Damage. Bon Vivant, Gadabout, Retired Duke (Earl Of Prunes)
Hello all of you wonderful people, Art Damage is my name and this time, pinch talking for dear Michael is my game. Unfortunately, a minor case of Bell's Palsy has made his ability to speak unintelligible. While annoyed with this latest issue again rising up, he remains in good spirits. After all, he dealt with a much more severe case years ago, and was able to keep his then ridiculous 12 hour a day, 7 days a week content output, not including interviews, performances, auditioning music, maintaining a huge database, writing most correspondence, building and maintaining a music library, etc., etc., without missing a single show. He didn't want to do it, he had to in order to stay employed.
Once the recent Supreme Court Mandate was announced, removing the actual rights women fought for and have been afforded a year shy of half a century, citing arcane circa 1800 and earlier events that have nothing to do with our Nation's founding documents and papers. While I clearly remember those contained language that included documents clearly spelling out that separation of Church and State was essential. I feel a duty to keep the music going with From The Basement as a gesture of support and solidarity. I did pick all the music and hand mixed the show. I was going to skip a week but as a father of a daughter and husband of Cathy for 42 years, this Supreme Court decision had me running to the music library to stop from doing a dumb thing. The initial instinct was to start attacking every Republican in walking range with a rake, recording a new episode is a much safer prospect. For now, at least. The fact that there are no protections for rape, incest or the mother's health is simply Draconian. They don't want to just go back to the 50's, they want to return to The Stone Age. This is a dangerous, immoral decision. Especially if you read the text of the sex offender on the court, Clarence Thomas. Next up, Gay Marrage, Contraception and a host of other rights. Interestingly, inter-racial marriage is also threatened, so maybe "Big Dick" Clarence is trying to rid himself of his white wife, now that everyone knows she's a Seditionist and is looking at a potential indictment. If this doesn't get a majority of the deadbeats that do not bother to vote off their ass and to their local voting center, our noble experiment in Democracy is over. Just think, an 18 year old male can LEGALLY purchase an AR 15, even after the new Gun Law. But if he rapes and impregnates even a young girl she is forced by law to carry his demon seed to term. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? Your humble host Art Damage will pop up with witty banter and will also introduce you to brand new Basement Dweller, Fuckeethah McDonald. She is also quite pissed with what's going on. Thanks to Art and Fuckeetha for helping to keep this thing on the move. BTW, Fuckeetha Rules. And so do you! Launched the new fundraising link (https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8KJGb9YYJn) on June 17 and already the goal has been reached! You people are the best. And we will gladly accept any spare change you find in the cushions until the expiration date. Since I can't just leave a static link up anymore (new rules), it will remain active until the 30 days expire on 7/17. Listen for new releases from The Lightning Seeds, Bartees Strange, Dayglow, Weezer, Perfume Genius, The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Gary Lucas, Will Hoge, Matt Nathanson, Ben Kweller, The Georgia Satellites, The Handcuffs, G. Love & Special Sauce and more. Love you all.

FTB#176 is subtitled “What I Played on my 66th Birthday” which should alert Hendrix and Zappa fans and also contains Birthday tunes for Brian Wilson who turned 80 the same day and Sir Paul McCartney who turned the same age a few days earlier. Another June 20th Birthday belongs to former major league Baseball catcher Andy Etchebarren, who sadly passed away in 2019, and although a two time All-Star is perhaps best remembered as having a face like a catcher's mitt. Hope you enjoy the show and thanks to all who have contributed to our latest fund raiser at https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8KJGb9YYJn We are already approaching our goal thanks to your generous support.
Perhaps it’s my affinity for hope, holding fast to optimism and that the existence of innate goodness is in more humans than not, but I see a crack forming and not for the light in Leonard’s song, but for finally seeing the facts presented for all. Until there are real consequences we cannot move forward. This episode was actually started last Friday but was not completed until last night. Some new, old and in between, rare performances, a couple of laughs, a fond farewell to Jim Seals, power pop love, jazz, blues, some extra Lou Reed and a current fave from Anton Barbeau. Did anyone else know that actor Edward James Olmos sang lead for a band called Pacific Ocean, or like me are you just finding out? There's be a new fundraiser posted, as it appears Veterinary Services have more than doubled out of nowhere, and two of our girls needed some attention immediately. That wiped out the Basement fund, so thanks for helping to heal 2 of our 6 rescues. I remain hopelessly optimistic. I'm raising $1,000 until 7/17/22 for Support From The Basement. Can you help? https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8KJGb9YYJn.

This episode was going to be all about kids and guns but I changed course after starting as it was making me more miserable about the current situation. Although admittedly never being a gun aficionado, it simply does not compute why any civilian would need a true weapon of war. Whenever attempting to purchase non-prescription allergy medication proper ID is a must for the strict control of potential Meth making material. Yet at 18 years old, it’s perfectly fine to plunk down some dough on an AR15 without so much as a background check and you could come back and do it again as often as you like. We better wake the fuck up here in America. Instead of wallowing, this episode offers some great new releases from Wilco, Drive-By Truckers, Afghan Whigs, Andrew Bird, James Deely, Eric Ambel, Fantastic Negrito, Prince, Daniel Villarreal, Frank Sinatra, Biff Bang Pow!, The Kills, Johnette Napolitano, The Watson Twins and S. Carey. We also say goodbye to the singular talent of Kelly Joe Phelps and dig deep into the library to help lighten the psychic load though the magic of The Gun Club, The Lords Of The New Church, Alice Cooper, Marah, The Faces, Steve Marriott, Tyrone Davis, The Rascals, Led Zeppelin, Urge Overkill, Dramarama, Lenny Bruce and so much more. Enjoy and stay safe.
