From The Basement #107 Christmas 2020
This episode was going to start with a tribute to my friend and radio sister Rita Houston from the second I learned she lost her six year cancer battle. Her fight was long, painfull, debilitating and unfathomable to anyone who has never dealt with it up close and personal. I am happy she is at peace but like everyone who knew her, sad her light has vanished from our sight. I initially planned to continue doing a “regular” show and even managed to get in a great new song from Jeffrey Dean Foster but once the Christmas tunes came out, the floodgates opened. What can I say? It’s been a truly tough year for everyone and sitting here on December 22 felt the need to try and muster up some last minute Holiday Spirit. Musically we run the gamut from a brilliant brand new Nick Piunti & The Complicated Men track to Butterbeans & Susie’s 1930 chestnut “Papa Ain't No Santa Claus (Mama Ain't No Christmas Tree).” Let’s take a sonic holiday romp together and lift our spirits high. Did I mention weed is finally legal in New Jersey? It’s good to be home, wherever you are. Merry Christmas to all and thanks for making this brutal year suck a whole lot less. https://paypal.me/pools/c/8beKwFWlHR

I avoid holiday music as much as possible, and yet it only seemed fitting that I would wait until today and tune in to this before hearing it for the first time this year. When Rita was around, it was literally impossible not to smile and laugh out loud. One of a kind. Merry Christmas, Mike.

Love the show, and I'm taking notes on the Christmas tunes. I'm a nut for Christmas music too. In case you haven't heard it, here's an excellent Chip Taylor tune I came across last year.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BuRodJ312k
