We begin with a history making speech from Adam Schiff and then turn the clock back for a re-creation of the beginning days of The Loft in order to mellow our minds during this very trying time in our country. There’s new music from Son Volt and long time guitar virtuoso Robin Trower and a tribute to yet another musician that has left the planet entirely too soon, Ranking Roger of The English Beat, General Public and Big Audio Dynamite. Your donations have been very generous and will ensure this program will continue through the Spring, at the very least. Please keep them coming at https://paypal.me/pools/c/8beKwFWlHR and accept my never ending gratitude for your love and support.

Yes, Schiff's was quite a speech. Hope it has legs.

Unfortunately, Schiff is on the wrong side of history but what he said is certainly a clear picture of the sad state of politics today and for quite some time prior. Now do we really want to spend our energy wallowing in a trying time of misery which really only attracts more of the same sickness? Or can we focus more on celebrating our freedom and God-given graces and using that strength to produce something really wonderful that pushes out all the nonsense? Like Mike Marrone’s Basement and before that Playing Records with Mike and before that The Loft. Turn Up The Radio and Let The Music Do the Talking. Two of my favorite songs by the way, by Detroit’s Rocket’s and Boston’s Joe Perry. Mike, you are wonderful producer of music and album art. Your message is delivered with the love of husbandry, fatherhood, and baseball. The politics sound like a chalkboard scratch with the fingernails. Please tone that down a bit.

Respectfully disagree with you there George. I appreciate any and all political discussion and it’s relevance to the music played by Mike. You don’t have to agree to appreciate a point of view, and at the end of the day, this is Mike’s forum to do with what he will. I always find at least one new artist with each show whom I go off and explore. Keep it up Mike. We’re still listening.

Not sure what you're disagreeing with Tim, but appreciate the respect. I've recently found Mike on this channel and tune in because the message is in his music and as also expressed by common values when he chimes in (I too love baseball, am a father, husband, and American). I suppose if Schiff was carrying a tune or speaking with "You Can't Always Get What You Want" playing the background I might have been able to tolerate what he was saying. But again, that's not the primary reason I tune in but it is a primary reason I dumped my XM radio subscription after subscribing for almost 20 years. If I wanted talk radio there's plenty of channels on the spectrum for that but talk about a chalkboard scratch no thank you! Now when the message is in the music different story; not so noisy and something I can appreciate, even the new rebel rebel type artists you might be referring to. I mean come on, who also doesn't love a good Neil Young or Springsteen song that speaks to the trying of the times? Tom Petty even better; you never heard him spewing from the political pulpit live or in person, but you could hear it in his music for sure. Yeah, I'll keep listening and if I'm to listen responsibly as Mike would suggest from time to time, well at the end of the day it's all a business, eh? Which means the more the politics I hear the less inclined I will be to reach into my pocket and send anyone's way.
