Have an absolutely beautiful rest of your life.
Episode #37 is sort of a mood piece recorded on the 28th anniversary of my Father’s passing. Just a few new things, including another track from the just released Decemberists EP. We make some beautiful Power Pop noise, slip in a bit of classy Jazz with Thelonious Monk, Count Basie and Frank Sinatra and round things out with a whole bunch of comfort food. This might be the last episode from this iteration of Mike’s Basement as we are moving out of state next week.
Can't believe I went more than a month without posting but I've been in dental reconstruction hell, as well as very busy at work. That said, here's a few new and old things that I've been cranking in the Basement Studio recently.
When I listen to music I rarely confine myself to a single year or even genre in one sitting, but tonight I found myself stuck in 1966. What a great year for timeless singles.
Love the new Bright Eyes album. Here's the opening track.
The band eastmountainsouth made only one album before going their separate ways. Peter Bradley Adams has been releasing a steady stream of quality solo efforts, the other half of the band took time to have a couple of beautiful babies. Now Kat Maslich-Bode is back with an EP called "Road Of 6" and this wonderful cover of a great Blue Nile song.
And here's a classic from eastmountainsouth to remind you all how brilliant this album is.
It wouldn't be fair to leave Peter's solo stuff out... From a few years back...
And that PBA tune segues so nicely into this one...
Many have asked how to keep the From The Basement programs afloat, especially now that I am unemployed. Please donate via PayPal below whatever you feel you can afford to help cover my costs. Thank you.
