Have an absolutely beautiful rest of your life.
Can't believe I went more than a month without posting but I've been in dental reconstruction hell, as well as very busy at work. That said, here's a few new and old things that I've been cranking in the Basement Studio recently.
Happy New Year,,,, as usual a day late. I started my year watching TV with my daughter... WWII stuff, Weed Wars and a cool indie flick that I somehow missed in 2009 called "Punching The Clown"... we really liked it. I now need to investigate Henry Phillips, think sort of early Loudon Wainwright meets Steve Poltz meets Stephen Bishop crossed with Get Set Go. You'll understand if you know the film. So I guess the first new artist I've been turned on to this year is Henry Phillips.
Every year at this time I go into a semi-deep funk and I don't mean that in a good way. You see, I am a Baseball fanatic with absolutely no interest in any other sport. Although a die-hard Yankee fan, I still remain riveted throughout the post-season even if they are eliminated. There is also an impending sense of doom with the end of season as it signals the start of Winter which I always dread. Dick Manitoba (Handsome Dick of the legendary Dictators) has perfectly summed up my feelings in this excellent blog post which is required reading for any of you that find yourself in similar state of mind.
I have been very ill for the last week but everything is looking good now. Here's some random tunes, new and old worth checking out. We'll begin with one of my favorite new releases, the new effort from Low.
My Morning Jacket return with "Circuital"
Speaking of My Morning Jacket, this Jim James collaboration with Booker T. Jones is my absolute favorite new song!
I think this is their best song to date.
Robert Plant reminded me about this great old Small Faces track.
Sometimes I really need to hear a little Dino to brighten my day.
Finally, since I missed posting on Mother's Day, let's close with this tear-jerker.
Really bad allergy related nonsense going on the past few days... worth it simply for the good weather ahead but it messes up my ears so I haven't been playing much music at home. Plus, once I take my meds I'm down for the count. Here's a few tunes that made it through my fog.
A lovely three hour commute home tonight, or I should say a few blocks from home as I couldn't even get my car up a hill near my house due to the freaking snow, with broken windshield wipers and absolutely the most moronic drivers I have ever encountered almost caused me to miss my daily post. But fear not, I made it. The only thing that calms me down after this kind of nonsense is the brilliance of Frank Zappa.
don't be a jerk
