Have an absolutely beautiful rest of your life.
It's hard to believe that Prince left for the after party in the sky exactly one year ago. Somehow it makes sense that "controversy" surrounds the planned release today of a "new" EP of music he recorded between 2006 and 2008. Although the information claimed 6 new songs, it is actually 5 songs and a remix of one. I've heard it all and my personal favorite is "No One Else" but the only one I can post at this time is the track "Deliverance."
Here's a batch of great new stuff in no particular order that makes my life worth living.
The Orwells song above is my favorite song at the moment of this posting, but the new album that Matthew Ryan is about to release (produced by Brian Fallon) is not only his best work ever, but likely in contention for album of the year.
HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY James Osterberg, jr. aka iggy pop
It sure has been a long time. I get so wrapped up in the end of the Baseball Season that I wind-up missing October sometimes and this was one of those years, even though my Yankees failed to achieve the playoffs. Oh well... big congrats to The Giants and Kansas City for a great World Series. Now I get to fully concentrate on music for the 150 or so days until Opening Day.
Here's an update of mostly new stuff that I've been digging.
Rust never sleeps and apparently neither does Neil. From making records in Jack White's record booth to fighting with Crosby and a very public romantic upheaval, Neil's been in the news. I hope at least some attention is paid to this wonderful new album. All the songs are presented solo, some with a 92 piece orchestra, a 60 piece orchestra and some with a big band.
I only knew Gary as one of the most respected Music Supervisors in the business and a fine radio host but never knew he was also a songwriter/musician. This is a killer EP and every track is filled to the brim with hooks, attitude and sublime pop musicality. Get this record. Extra points for the nod to Dr. Winston O'Boogie with the cover art too!
Can't believe I went more than a month without posting but I've been in dental reconstruction hell, as well as very busy at work. That said, here's a few new and old things that I've been cranking in the Basement Studio recently.
I know ... I know... it's been way too long. I've been exceedingly busy with new systems at work so my spare time was significantly impacted. Consider July my vacation. Here's some stuff near the top of my pile of cool new tunes.
Many have asked how to keep the From The Basement programs afloat, especially now that I am unemployed. Please donate via PayPal below whatever you feel you can afford to help cover my costs. Thank you.
