Have an absolutely beautiful rest of your life.
There’s only time for a few more episodes before I have to move the Mike’s Basement studio and we spend a portion of #36 celebrating some of the new RRHOF inductees. We also dwell on some of the obvious and somewhat ridiculous omissions. One set was inspired by a terrific new documentary on Jeff Beck and we have new stuff from The Decemberists, Mercury Rev (with Margo Price), live David Byrne, Snail Mail and Bruce on Broadway. I have also located my favorite Christmas song of all time, which is guaranteed to make you reach for a box of tissues and/or a barf bag. Once again there’s some “Yacht Rock” that is never played and a blast of Holiday Cheer from The Cartwright’s. Dig in and turn on.
Can't believe I went more than a month without posting but I've been in dental reconstruction hell, as well as very busy at work. That said, here's a few new and old things that I've been cranking in the Basement Studio recently.
Happy New Year,,,, as usual a day late. I started my year watching TV with my daughter... WWII stuff, Weed Wars and a cool indie flick that I somehow missed in 2009 called "Punching The Clown"... we really liked it. I now need to investigate Henry Phillips, think sort of early Loudon Wainwright meets Steve Poltz meets Stephen Bishop crossed with Get Set Go. You'll understand if you know the film. So I guess the first new artist I've been turned on to this year is Henry Phillips.
Surely I can't be the only one wondering who will be the third? I actually met Owsley once, backstage at the first Furthur Festival and he tried to sell me very expensive jewelry! He inspired many... and here's the audio proof.
And if you've been hoarding some of his magic, go ahead and take it and listen to this...
I can't believe that I have yet to post any Jimi Hendrix. Mind boggling considering that along with Zappa he's my favorite. I guess in order of ranking (today that is) it would go... #1 Hendrix, #2 Zappa, #3 Beatles, #4 Stones......
At any rate, here's some Hendrix...
Many have asked how to keep the From The Basement programs afloat, especially now that I am unemployed. Please donate via PayPal below whatever you feel you can afford to help cover my costs. Thank you.
