I have been unable to update this blog due to an overwhelming sense of "what the fuck." More than halfway through my 60th year on the planet, the realization that society, culture, humanity and basic human decency may expire before me is alarmingly possible. I've always believed that we would be much further along the evolutionary wheel by the time I reached this age.
Oh well... shit happens, right?
The current occupant of The White House is not the reason everything seems to have gone off the rails. He is the result. It's been a battle to turn off the incessant noise of reality television becoming real life. Faces glued to that screen in their hand connected to everything all the time but really nothing at all.
At least we still have music. Here's some new things... but first a song that proves again how far ahead of the curve David Bowie always was.
Sorry I've been silent on this blog for a few weeks. I'll try to make up for my sloth with a massive post of new tunes that are making my world a better place lately. We'll start with a pair that belong at the top of the list.
Can't believe I went more than a month without posting but I've been in dental reconstruction hell, as well as very busy at work. That said, here's a few new and old things that I've been cranking in the Basement Studio recently.
When I see pretty much anything released on the ANTI- label I already know a few things up front. I will want to hear it immediately and more often than not, I'm going to love it. They are simply the best American record label and a quick check of their current artist roster is all the proof you need. They more than live up to their slogan, "Real artists creating great recordings on their own terms." ANTI- is set to release the album of the Summer on May 10 -- Booker T. Jones' "The Road From Memphis" and I haven't stopped listening to it since last night. Backed by The Roots, the legendary Booker T has made an album for everyone. Forget genres, formats, demographics, focus groups, call-out research, extending your brand, on-line marketing strategies and even global warming and PLAY THIS RECORD THE SECOND YOU GET IT!!!!!
I cannot post anything here from the album except for the lead track "Representing Memphis" which features Sharon Jones and Matt Berninger of The National on vocals. But just wait until you hear "Progress" with Jim James of My Morning Jacket... in a perfect world it would be the single of the Summer.
Here's another ANTI- artist that will not remain a secret too much longer... Frank Turner.
And a brand new artist you should get to know... Sean Rowe
