Couldn't be happier the dreaded Holidays are in the rear view, now let's get down some very cool new tunes. First up simply has to be this brilliant new one from Nada Surf. My cousin Mike Boldt has always been a musical inspiration to me, an amazing musician and brilliant artist. We go back so far that I remember first seeing color TV at his house (The Flinstones and Wizard Of Oz) and he and his brother Phil were the first live music I ever experienced with their early 60's band The Matches! Hey, they were almost signed to Kama Sutra! The label got far enough to suggest changing their name to The Lovin' Spoonful... guess they were sitting on that for a while. At any rate, this preamble simply proves that we sure are freaking old! Now that Mike has retired from his Jersey City, NJ teaching gig he reactivated his partnership with Phil Gallo (not my cousin Phil) as Dez Manku. Here's a taste of their new album. I know he's my cousin and all, but I really like it. 1 Comment |
