Mavis updates Funkadelic with Jeff Tweedy again in the production chair. What's not to love?

Somehow this manages to sound vintage and current at the same time. One listen and I was sold.

Joe Pernice hooks up with Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub and an irresistible version of a great INXS tune ensues.

To my ears this is the best Robyn Hitchcock album since "Perspex Island."

I was initially dissapointed due to their last release being flat-out brilliant but after a few listens I'm convinced this is just as essential. The suddenly very busy Jeff Tweedy also produced this one!

Speaking of best work in a long time... I love this album and especially this tune.

Perfect for this time of the year. Thanks to Franny Thomas for turning me on to this one.

I know it's only Wednesday but I've had this tune stuck on repeat in my head all week.

I have been very ill for the last week but everything is looking good now.  Here's some random tunes, new and old worth checking out.  We'll begin with one of my favorite new releases, the new effort from Low.

My Morning Jacket return with "Circuital"

Speaking of My Morning Jacket, this Jim James collaboration with Booker T. Jones is my absolute favorite new song!
Picture
I think this is their best song to date.

Robert Plant reminded me about this great old Small Faces track.

Sometimes I really need to hear a little Dino to brighten my day.

Finally, since I missed posting on Mother's Day, let's close with this tear-jerker.

I've spent the weekend on a semi-massive "honey-do" list, as well as some long overdue clutter removal on my basement desk.    While I try to listen to everything it is getting harder and harder to keep up with the steady stream of new releases, not to mention the archival and bootleg stuff that shows up daily.  Here's a batch of stuff I uncovered this weekend, some new, some old and one just because.  I need to start with a new release from one of my prog heroes Van Der Graaf Generator.

Finally got around to the new Low... WOW!

The new Colin Devlin album, his solo debut, is finally coming out.  We've been playing it on the air since Colin sent me a copy in late 2008, and I can't believe it has taken this long to be released.  This is really a great album.
Picture
From the 3 disc expanded, super duper version of one of their best.  This is a great live medley!

Finally I pulled out this completely overlooked gem from former Guadalcanal Diary singer, Murray Attaway.
