One of the most discussed projects of the new year has yet be officially released, the massive 4 disc Amnesty International Dylan covers collection "Chimes Of Freedom." Click here for all the details. I have an early airplay copy and we've been playing a ton of it on The Loft, here's one of my early favorites. And here's a track from their new album. Check them out here. This caught my ear last night... new music from Robert Deeble. Add Comment No matter how much I try to keep up the pile of new stuff continues to expand at an alarming rate. Here's a few new things that jumped out of the pile this week. Couldn't be happier the dreaded Holidays are in the rear view, now let's get down some very cool new tunes. First up simply has to be this brilliant new one from Nada Surf. My cousin Mike Boldt has always been a musical inspiration to me, an amazing musician and brilliant artist. We go back so far that I remember first seeing color TV at his house (The Flinstones and Wizard Of Oz) and he and his brother Phil were the first live music I ever experienced with their early 60's band The Matches! Hey, they were almost signed to Kama Sutra! The label got far enough to suggest changing their name to The Lovin' Spoonful... guess they were sitting on that for a while. At any rate, this preamble simply proves that we sure are freaking old! Now that Mike has retired from his Jersey City, NJ teaching gig he reactivated his partnership with Phil Gallo (not my cousin Phil) as Dez Manku. Here's a taste of their new album. I know he's my cousin and all, but I really like it. Happy New Year,,,, as usual a day late. I started my year watching TV with my daughter... WWII stuff, Weed Wars and a cool indie flick that I somehow missed in 2009 called "Punching The Clown"... we really liked it. I now need to investigate Henry Phillips, think sort of early Loudon Wainwright meets Steve Poltz meets Stephen Bishop crossed with Get Set Go. You'll understand if you know the film. So I guess the first new artist I've been turned on to this year is Henry Phillips. |
